Natural fibres are durable and long lasting, if you treat them right. And why wouldn’t you care for your treasured knitwear?!
Here are our top tips for caring for your knitwear, so the is lasts.
Wash Less - Like Virtually Not At All
Wool is naturally anti-bacterial. At the maximum, it should only be washed once a season.
A Breath Of Fresh Air
Let your woollens air, ideally outside in the breeze. This will lift light odours, refresh the fibres, and sunlight will help to ward off moths.
Spot Clean
If you do have a mark, spot clean the mark with woollen detergent. You might even find that some stains stay only on the surface of the fibres, brushing off.
Careful Combing
For pilling, use a cashmere comb, or de-bobbler. Good wool won’t continue to pill heavily after it’s first round of pilling. This is a natural occurrence of the fibres. Combing will easily remove the bobbles and leave your knits looking fresh.
Darn HolesDon’t leave holes to get worse. If you do have a hole in your knits, send them for repair or darn them yourself - darning is a very mindful process.
When storing your knitwear for longer term in between seasons, store in airtight vacuum pack bags to protect from any moths. Air before bagging, or if you are concerned about moth, put your knits in a bag and leave them in the freezer for two weeks. This will do away with any eggs or larvae that might be hidden amongst your woollens.
